Creature care
Most people who know me also know that a few months ago, I began helping with dog rescue efforts. Since December, we have hosted a string of foster dogs in our house: Homer (I cried when he left), Foster (who now goes by Amos), Ralphie (a.k.a. LiddleBiddle), Dustin (now named Dusty) and our two current fosters, Crystal and Pooh Bear (a.k.a. Poohbert -- trust me, it just fits her).
And most people who know I'm a rescuer also know that I consider it a ministry. Yes, it may be an unusual form of ministry, but it is an act of caring for God's creation. Tomorrow morning, it will involve getting up before dawn to transport some pups to Oklahoma, where another driver will meet me to take them further along their journey to a rescue home in Minnesota.
For those who share my interest in caring for the animal kingdom from a Christian perspective, I recommend Not One Sparrow: a Christian voice for animals. They also have a Facebook page, which is a good way to keep up with their recent blog entries.
"Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten in God's sight." -- Luke 12:6
Amy, thank you so much for mentioning Not One Sparrow in your post. I'm very grateful for the recommendation, and greatly admire the compassionate work you're doing on behalf of the foster dogs and rescue transfers. That's wonderful, and certainly an incredibly valuable and self-giving ministry. Again, thank you, and the very best to you! - Ben (Not One Sparrow founder/admin.)
